Qualified #3 for the Anderson USAC Midget Race, but was
out on Lap 5 Incident in the 35 Lap Feature
Drew's
first USAC competition started on a very positive note as
Drew qualified #3 in a 12-car field of competitiors of the
Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Series on Saturday night
at Anderson Motor Speedway,Anderson,South Carolina.
At the
wheel of the #1 Wirtgen America/PPG Automotive Refinishes/Mobil
1/Oakley Hawk midget Drew was poised for a great night of
racing. The Seymour Brothers and the crew had prepared the
race car well and the rest looked simple.
Simple
until Lap 5 of the 35 lap feature. The #43 car dove in deep
on Drew in a turn and washed up into Drew's left front suspension. This
damaged Drew's left front spindle and, unfortunately, concluded
the night for Drew and the #1.
Success
in many ways did transpire, however. Drew got to show what
he is capable of in competition with seasoned veterans of
the Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Series.
Drew
had some truly quality time with the Seymour Brothers and
their capable hands prepared Drew in many ways for more
to come. All in all it was a good experience.
In 2005
Drew will show more of what he is capable of at the wheel
of race cars in many ways.
It will
be worth the wait. more

Tests Ford Focus Midget
WGME-Channel 13 TV films and interviews Drew
True to the 2004 plan to continuously test Drew in many
forms of race cars on Thursday, July 29, Drew sat behind
the wheel of a USAC Ford Focus midget.
The test took place on the 1/3 mile paved oval of Beech
Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, under the guidance
of New England USAC Midget team owner Bobby Seymour of Seymour
Enterprises, Marlborough, Massachusettes.
S&S Racing provided their brand new race car for Drew
to determine the handling characteristics of a midget on
a paved oval. The race car setup was Seymour perfect.
Drew ran a total of four on-track efforts and in each outing
he became more and more comfortable with the quick handling
that midgets are famous for.
Bobby Seymour stated that Drew was "silk smooth"
and that he had the ability to catch the car before it even
twitched.
This mirrors the results of Drew's previous tests in 2004
from the oval experiences of an open-wheel modified coupe,a
Pro-stock stock car and now a USAC midget.
The outing was ever more successful as TV-13 Anchorperson
Kim Block and a film crew were on site to chronicle Drew's
track sessions. Footage of Drew on track and a driver interview
were compiled and the edited work was aired on CBS Channel
13 (Portland, Maine) and on CBS Channel 5 (Bangor, Maine)
on August 2, 2004 at the primetime 6 P.M. news hour and
again at the 11 P.M. late news editions.
This makes for three consecutive years running that Dave
Eid,Sports Director of Channel 13 and the staff of Channel
13 have produced a film news featurette on Drew's career
in motorsport.
Our thanks to Bobby and Mike Seymour and everyone at Channel
5 and 13 for their efforts to assist Drew in his achievements.

Tests Ford Taurus Pro-Stock at Oxford Plains
As a follow-up
to the test that Drew recently completed in the PASS Modified
race car the next step was to put Drew at the wheel of a
500-PLUS horsepower,2700 pound Ford Taurus-bodied Pro-Stock.
Jay Cushman of
Cushman Competition provided the #29 for the day to give
Drew a sense of what brute power is all about on a 3/8th
mile asphalt oval.Scott Chubbuck, the driver in weekly competitions, was
also in attendance to provide to Drew a setup and a baseline
of achievement.
Drew was truly
amazed at having that much power at his right foot.In a
total of five sessions of on-track improvement,Drew ran
down to a low of 15.5 seconds and he ran consistent 15.6
second laps. The best times in the day for Scott Chubbuck
were consistent 15.3 second lap times.
It was a great
experience for Drew as he continues to sit at the wheel
of more and more powerful race cars. The #29 is a real race
car and then some!
Our thanks to
Jay,Scott and the crew for a valuable opportunity that answered
many questions with regards to the talent and the progression
of Drew Sprague in his career in motorsports.

Sprague Tests PASS Mod at Oxford Plains Speedway
PPG Automotive
Finishes driver Drew Sprague entered the world of oval racing
on Tuesday,May 4,as he took to the track at Oxford Plains
Speedway in Oxford,Maine behind the wheel of a PASS
modified owned by Mike Rowe of Auburn.
The last time
that Drew had been on the track at OPS was in a Mini-Cup
car in May of 1999.The difference between the
two race cars was different to say the least.
Drew ran over
150 laps in the day and was running laps of 16.6 seconds
consistently at the end of the session. Considering that
the track was green from heavy rains and that the race car
was setup for a more-banked track from its previous race
outing the results were pleasing.
This test was
made possible by Mike and Ben Rowe as an opportunity to
see what Drew felt about the short-track style of motorsport.
Drew was comfortable at the wheel during the session although
his seat position was a reach, as the settings were for
driver Tommy Rowe, who is a bit taller than Drew's five
foot seven frame.
More tests will
be coming in other race cars in the next several weeks as
Drew looks to grow his efforts in other forms of racing.
17
year-old Drew Sprague started racing at the age of eight.Drew
has piloted NHRA/IHRA Junior dragsters and Funny Cars,FIA
and WKA karts,Skip Barber Formula Dodge and BMW Formula
Junior race cars.Drew has achieved eleven racing licenses
during his career including being the first North American
to ever license in the Formula BMW ADAC German Championship.

Drew
Receives USAC Ford Focus Midget Series
Competition License
Drew
is now a member of USAC and he is a licensed competitor
in the United States Auto Club(USAC)Ford Focus Midget Series. This
license
privileges Drew to be able to compete in any of the five
Ford Focus Midget Series programs across the United States.
Plans
are in process for Drew to do a full day of testing at the
wheel of a Focus midget in
the
near future.
The
development of a professional driver requires a constant
evolution of opportunities at the wheel of race cars.As
Drew has driven dragsters, karts and Formula cars the quickness
of a midget provides even more of what Drew has been learning
the last ten years.
There
are many more tests in many more forms of race cars that
Drew will experience in 2004 and beyond.
Check back soon to learn what Drew has in process and in
feedback from these tests.
